Religious pilgrimage in contemporary sociological study

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem náboženských poutí a pokouší se zmapovat základní směry, jimiž se současné bádání o poutnictví ubírá. Nejprve je představen turnerovský model, založený na konceptech liminarity a communitas, který znamenal po jistou dobu takřka paradigmatický přístup k poutnictví a je stále využívána jako jeden z nástrojů k analýze náboženských cest. Dále je pozornost věnována podobám poutnictví v postmoderní době – sbližování poutnictví a turismu a podobám náboženských poutí v tradičních etablovaných církevních uskupeních a naproti tomu putování jakožto výraz individualizované spirituality. Poslední část práce je věnována kyberpoutnictví, tj. náboženským cestám vykonávaným skrze virtuální prostředí internetu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of pilgrimage and it tries to map out basic approaches of the current pilgrimage research. First, the Turner approach is introduced. This model is based on the concepts of liminarity and communitas. This approach was, for a certain period of time, equaled with the paradigm about pilgrimages and is still being used as one of the main tools for pilgrimage analysis. Further, the attention is paid to the forms of pilgrimage in postmodern period – to converging pilgrimage and tourism, to the forms of pilgrimages in traditional church establishments and also, as the opposite, to pilgrimages as an expression of individualized spirituality. The last part of the thesis is devoted to cyberpilgrimage, i.e. pilgrimages in the virtual reality of the Internet.
