Anthropological Assessment of Human Skulls from Buchlov State Castle Collections

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnuji antropologickému hodnocení jedenácti lidských lebek ze sbírek Státního hradu Buchlova. Cílem bylo odhadnout u nich pohlaví, dožitý věk a populační afinitu pomocí nemetrických a metrických metod. Záměrem bylo také pokusit se zjistit původ lebek z dostupných historických pramenů a antropologické odhady z kostí konfrontovat s historickými údaji. Z výsledků vyplývá, že studovaný soubor lebek zahrnuje kosti obou pohlaví a je věkově a populačně nehomogenní. Jedná se o nesourodou skupinu, kde převládají lidé se znaky evropského původu, sbírka však obsahuje i tři jedince s evidentními znaky původu afrického. Nepodařilo se však vysledovat historii této sbírky na základě hodnověrných historických pramenů.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to anthropological evaluation of eleven human skulls from the collections of the State Castle Buchlov. The aim was to estimate them for sex, age at death and population affinity using non-metric and metric methods. Furthermore, the goal was to try to determine their origin from the available historical sources and to confront the anthropological estimates with historical data. From the results it is apparent that the studied set includes bones of both sexes and age and population is inhomogeneous. It is a heterogeneous group dominated by people with signs of European origin, but also contains a collection of three individuals with obvious features of African origin. However I was unable to trace the history of the collection based on authentic historical sources.
