Al-Shabaab - Profile of the Somalia Militant Organization

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce předkládá profil somálské militantní organizace al-Šabáb. Přestože tato organizace patří k jedněm z nejaktivnějších na africkém kontinentu, konkrétně v oblasti Afrického rohu, nebyla ji v českém prostředí zatím věnována výraznější pozornost. Na organizaci bude nahlíženo také z pohledu mírně modifikované typologie násilných nestátních aktérů Phila Williamse, jež je představena v rámci konceptualizace v první části práce. Druhá část práce se věnuje samotnému profilu organizace, u níž je reflektováno pouze údobí od přelomu let 2011 a 2012 do současnosti. V rámci této části práce je představeno nejdříve stručné shrnutí vývoje al-Šabábu, včetně jeho obecných silných a slabých stránek. Dále se práce věnuje jeho ideologii, strategii a taktice, otázce financování a také otázce organizační struktury a členské základny. Na závěr jsou zjištěné informace analyzovány z pohledu Williamsovi typologie.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis presents a profile of the Somali militant organization al-Shabaab. Although this organization belongs to one of the most active in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa, there has not been given significant attention in the Czech environment, yet. The organization will also be seen from the perspective of a sighly modified typology of violate non-state actors by Phil Williams, which is presented as a part of conceptualization in the first part of this thesis. The second part is dedicated to the profile of the organization, where is reflected only period since the turn of the years 2011 ad 2012 to the present day. In this part, there is first brief summary of the evolution of al-Shabaab, including its general strenghts and weaknesses. After that, the thesis deals with its ideology, strategies and tactics, the funding and the organizational structure and membership base. At the conclusion the identified information is analyzed by the perspective of Williams´ typology.
