The correlation between refractive error and migraine headache

Abstract:

Refrakční vady jsou běžné zrakové vady, které lze korigovat pomocí brýlí, kontaktních čoček nebo se přistupuje k refrakční chirurgii. V případech, kdy není refrakční vada adekvátně korigována, může docházet k vedlejším, a ne zcela jasně specifickým stavům, jakými jsou přidružené bolesti hlavy, únava, odmítání nošení korekce a pocity nepohodlí v brýlích. Jedním z takových projevů může být migréna. Jedná se o neurologické onemocnění charakterizované opakovanými typickými bolestmi hlavy, často doprovázenými světloplachostí a dalšími poruchami zraku. Jsou určité studie, které naznačují souvislost mezi nekorigovanými nebo chybně korigovanými refrakčními vadami a migrénou, ale přesná povaha tohoto vztahu zůstává nadále nejasná. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda nošení správné korekce refrakční vady může ovlivnit průběh migrény a zároveň snížit její incidenci. Výsledky tohoto výzkumu mají potenciál informovat klinickou praxi a zlepšit léčbu pacientů s migrénami ve spojitosti s výskytem refrakčních vad. V rámci diskuze jsou zjištěné výsledky porovnány se světovými studiemi.

Abstract:

Refractive errors are common visual impairments that can be corrected by glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. In case where a refractive error is not adequately corrected, secondary and not clearly specific conditions may occur, such as associated headaches, fatigue, refusal to wear corrective eyewear and feelings of discomfort in glasses. Migraine may be one such manifestation. It is a neurological disorder characterized by typical recurrent headaches, often accompanied by photophobia and other visual disturbances. There are some studies that suggest a correlation between uncorrected or poorly corrected refractive errors and migraine, but the exact relationship remains unclear. The aim of this thesis is to investigate whether wearing correct refractive error correction can influence the course of migraine and also reduce its incidence. The results of this study have the potential to inform clinical practice and improve the management of migraine patients in relation to the incidence of refractive errors. In the discussion, the findings are compared with worldwide studies.
