Distribution of career anchors among Police of the Czech Republic and their influence on job satisfaction and work engagement.

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá rozložením kariérových kotev u Policie České republiky a jejich vlivem na pracovní spokojenost a angažovanost. Hlavním teoretickým východiskem výzkumného projektu je koncept kariérové typologie E. H. Scheina, spolu s dosavadními výzkumy kariérového zakotvení a jeho vlivu na pracovní postoje a chování. Součástí teoretické části této práce je také relevantní charakteristika Policie ČR. Výzkumný soubor je tvořen celkem 415 zaměstnanci/zaměstnankyněmi a policisty/policistkami z Olomouckého kraje a kraje Vysočina. Data byla sbírána pomocí sestavené dotazníkové baterie formou tužka-papír. Cílem výzkumného projektu bylo zmapovat zastoupení kariérových kotev u vybraného souboru, na základě předpokladu, že nejčastěji zastoupenou kariérovou kotvou je kotva jistota/stabilita, která svými charakteristikami nejlépe odpovídá charakteristikám policejní profese. Následně si tato práce kladla za cíl ověřit vliv této kariérové kotvy na pracovní spokojenost a angažovanost policejních zaměstnanců a policistů. Výsledky odhalily, že kariérová kotva jistota/stabilita je skutečně nejčastěji preferovanou kariérovou kotvou (u 38 % respondentů), a že tato kotva významně ovlivňuje míru jejich pracovní spokojenosti. Vliv této kotvy na pracovní angažovanost však potvrzen nebyl.

Abstract:

Presented thesis examines the distribution of career anchors among Police of the Czech Republic, and their influence on job satisfaction and work engagement. The main theoretical basis of the research project is the concept of career typology invented by E. H. Schein, followed by existing research of career anchors and their influence on work/psychological outcomes. Relevant characteristics of the Czech Police are also presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. The research sample consists of total 415 police employees and police officers from two regions – Olomouc and Vysočina. The data was collected using a pen-and paper questionnaire-based method. The aim of the research project was to explore the distribution of career anchors within the sample, based on the assumption that the most frequently represented career anchor is security/stability as it is the most fitting for the characteristics of the police profession. Subsequently, the aim of this work was to verify the influence of this career anchor on job satisfaction and work engagement of police employees and police officers. The results revealed that career anchor security/stability is indeed the most preferred career anchor (for 38% of respondents), and that this anchor has significant influence on their job satisfaction. However, no correlation between this anchor and work engagement was found.
