Juan Rulfo and the cinema. A way to approach literature?

Abstract:

This thesis aims to analyze the work of Mexican author Juan Rulfo, its characteristic features, and its placement within the Latin American literary context. The main focus will be on his most renowned works, the novel Pedro Páramo and the short story El Gallo de Oro. Special attention will be given to a detailed comparison of these two works with their film adaptations by directors Carlos Velo and Roberto Gavaldón. The objective of this study is to evaluate which work, to what extent, and under what conditions is suitable for use as supplementary material for Spanish language students in secondary schools. The thesis includes proposals for specific activities that can be incorporated into Spanish language instruction, aiming to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Mexican culture and the key elements of the work of one of the most celebrated Mexican authors of all time.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl analyzovat dílo mexického autora Juana Rulfa, jeho charakeristických znaků a zařazení do latinskoamerického literárního kontextu. Nejvíce se zaměříme na jeho nejznámější dílo,- román Pedro Páramo, a povídku El Gallo de Oro. Speciální pozornost věnujeme podrobnému porovnání těchto dvou děl s jejich filmovými adaptacemi režisérů Carlose Vely a Roberta Gavaldóna. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, které dílo, v jaké míře a za jakých podmínek je vhodné pro použití jako doplňující materiál pro studenty španělštiny na středních školách. Součástí práce jsou návrhy na konkrétní aktivity, které se dají začlenit při vyučování španělštiny tak, aby studenti co možná nejvíce porozuměli jak mexické kultuře, tak stěžejním znakům díla jednoho z nejslavnějších mexických autorů všech dob.
