Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou interní sémantické struktury vybrané skupiny sloves love, like a adore, vyjadřujících duševní stav s pozitivním vlivem na subjekt daného slovesa. Práce je založena na analýze slovníkových definic a materiálu získaného ze dvou korpusů pro anglický jazyk, a to British National Corpus a Corpus of Contemporary American English. Práce si klade za úkol analyzovat interní sémantickou strukturu vybraných sloves za účelem zjistit, zda jsou slovesa v tomto ohledu stejná a zda-li teorie o stavových slovesech odpovídají skutečnému uplatnění daných sloves. Dle výsledků analýzy se interní sémantická struktura sloves v této skupině značně liší. Jak bylo zjištěno, některá slovesa se chovají méně jako stavová slovesa, což je dáno především sémantickými vlastnostmi daných sloves.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the analysis of internal semantic structure of a selected group of English verbs. The selected verbs are semantically classified as mental verbs with positive effect on the Experiencer in the subject position. These verbs are love, like and adore. The analysis focuses on the meaning of the verbs and on their occurrences in two corpora of English language: the British National Corpus and the Corpus of Contemporary American English. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the internal semantic structure of the verbs and to discover whether the verbs are similar as a group in these terms or if the verbs differ from each other. Furthermore, since the selected verbs are generally regarded as stative, the purpose of the thesis is also to see if the theories on stative verbs correspond to the actual employment of the verbs. According to the analyses of the data collected in the corpora, it is revealed that the verbs differ from each other as for their internal semantic structure; and moreover, it is also evident that some verbs show less stative behaviour than the others as a result of the semantic properties of each verb
