Documentation of the color layer stratigraphy in the current practice of conservators-restorers

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje tématu metody dokumentace stratigrafie barvených vrstev v restaurátorských průzkumech výtvarných děl, nebo historicky a esteticky hodnotných barvených nátěrů. Stratigrafie je pomocná výzkumná metoda zabývající se studiem jednotlivých vrstev. V restaurátorských průzkumech je stratigrafie barevných vrstev jedna z nejpodstatnějších metod. Podává informace o počtu a posloupnosti vrstev výtvarného díla, jejich prostupem, užitých technologiích a materiálech. Na základě metody je mimo jiné možno zjistit dataci díla, malířskou techniku, stupeň a rozsah degradace díla, zjištění přemaleb, odhalení falz a vytvořit záměr na následné konzervování či restaurování výtvarného díla. Překládaná bakalářská práce v teoretické části poskytuje náhled do jednotlivých vrstev výtvarného díla, zároveň tuto problematiku konkretizuje na jednotlivých historicky signifikantních technikách malířské výstavby na různých podložkách, mapuje historii metod průzkumu barevných vrstev a jejich složek a porovnává ji s metodami používanými dnes. V rámci praktické části jsou uvedeny konkrétní příklady metod průzkumu barevných nátěrů v projektu obnovy a záchrany kostela sv. Markéty v Jaroměřicích nad Rokytnou.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis is devoted to the topic of the method of documentation of the stratigraphy of color layers in restoration surveys of works of art, or historically and aesthetically valuable colored coatings. Stratigraphy is an auxiliary research method dealing with the study of individual layers. In restoration surveys, the stratigraphy of color layers is one of the most essential methods. It provides information on the number and sequence of the layers of the artwork, their penetration, the technologies and materials used. On the basis of the method, among other things, it is possible to determine the dating of the work, the painting technique, the degree and extent of the work's degradation, the detection of repaintings, the detection of forgeries, and the creation of a plan for the subsequent conservation or restoration of the work of art. Bachelor's thesis in the theoretical part provides an insight into the individual layers of a work of art, at the same time it concretizes this issue on individual historically significant techniques of painting construction on various substrates, it maps the history of methods of researching color layers and their components and compares it with the methods used today. As part of the practical part, specific examples of the methods of researching color layers in the restoration and rescue project of the Church of St. Marketa in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou.
