Development of theme in documentary film on the basis of own work: practical aspects of realization and creative experience

Abstract:

V tvůrčí bakalářské práci se věnuji vlastnímu dokumentárnímu filmu a tematickému vývoji v průběhu jeho realizace. Vzniklý dokumentární film „Na doraz“ je osobním portrétem Eriky, jejíž vášní jsou bojové sporty. Cílem práce je vytvořit dokumentární film a zpracovat komplexní reflexi, která vzniklé dílo rozebírá. V první části práce rozebírám koncepty teoretiků dokumentárních filmů nebo střihové skladby, např. Nicholse (2012), Valušiaka (1986), Plaževského, (1967) a Orlebara (2010). V práci se zaměřuji se na to, jakým způsobem se mi teoretické koncepty podařilo implementovat při realizaci mého projektu. V praktické části práce objasňuji, jakým způsobem jsem byla nucena změnit celou koncepci dokumentu v důsledku úmrtí hlavní postavy, a pomocí jakých prostředků jsem dokončila dokumentární portrét mladé sportovkyně i po její smrti. Dokument je složen z výpovědi Eriky, z rozhovorů s jejím trenérem a přáteli, a využívá found footage záznamů a fotografií. Sebereflexe v závěru práce může sloužit jako návod pro jiné tvůrce k vyvarování se zbytečným chybám při realizaci dokumentárního filmu. Vzniklý dokumentární film by mohl být distribuován na studentských filmových festivalech.

Abstract:

In the creative bachelor work, I deal with my own documentary film and thematic development during its realisation. My documentary film “At full blast” is personal portrait of Erika, who has passion for martial arts. The aim of the work is to create documentary portrait and write full reflection of the given project. First of all, I introduce some concepts of theorists of documentary films or editing composition, e.g. Nichols (2012), Valušiak (1986), Plaževski (1967), Orlebar (2010). I focus on the implementation of the theoretical concepts in a process of realisation of my project. In the practical part, I clarify way of changing whole concept of the work due to death of the main character, and also what helped me to finish the documentary portrait of the young sportswoman after her death. The documentary film is composed of testimony of Erika, her coach and friends, and there are used found footage records and photographs. At the end of the thesis is self-reflection which could be useful for other authors to avoid unnecessary errors during the realisation of documentary film. The documentary film could be introduced at one of student film festivals.
