Abstract:

Disertační práce shrnuje výsledky autorčina výzkumu v oblasti experimentů s veřejnými statky. Představuje tři vědecké články, které byly publikovány v českých a zahraničních ekonomických časopisech. Všechny příspěvky se zabývaly experimentálním testováním mechanismu dobrovolného přispívání na veřejné statky a jeho vybraných modifikací (kterými byly prahový mechanismus, charitativní loterie a decentralizované trestání). Cíli disertační práce je (i) s pomocí metody laboratorního experimentu prozkoumat dopady vybraných faktorů na míru spolupráce při dobrovolném přispívání na veřejný statek a (ii) na základě získaných dat posoudit platnost teoretického modelu. V souladu s autorčinou hypotézou se ukázalo, že výsledky získané v průběhu výzkumu jsou většinou ve shodě s výsledky publikovanými v zahraničí; v rozporu se závěry teorie her experimentální subjekty dobrovolně přispívají na veřejné statky, na druhou stranu jejich příspěvky nedosahují Pareto-efektivní úrovně. Disertace má teoretickou, metodologickou a empirickou část. První kapitola představuje model mechanismu dobrovolného přispívání na veřejné statky. Ve druhé kapitole je rozpracována metoda laboratorního testování. Třetí kapitola shrnuje hlavní výsledky autorčina výzkumu a představuje odpovědi na výzkumné otázky položené v této práci. Detailnější rozpracování jednotlivých (testovaných) oblastí přináší tři již publikované vědecké články, které jsou k práci přiloženy v sekci „Appendices“. První článek se zabývá prahovým mechanismem, druhý se zaměřuje na charitativní loterie a třetí článek se soustředí na decentralizované trestání.

Abstract:

This doctoral thesis summarizes the results of research in the field of experiments with public goods. It presents three papers on the topic that were recently published in Czech and other economic journals. The papers all involved experimental testing of the voluntary contribution mechanism and its selected modifications (threshold mechanism, charitable lotteries, and decentralized punishment). The goals of this thesis are (i) to examine, using the laboratory experiment method, the impacts of selected factors on cooperation levels in voluntary contributions to a public good and (ii) based on the data acquired, to evaluate the validity of the theoretical model. In line with the author’s hypothesis, the results acquired during the research are mostly in accordance with findings published in other countries: contrary to the game-theoretic predictions, experimental subjects do voluntarily contribute to public goods; on the other hand the contributions do not reach Pareto efficiency. The thesis has theoretical, methodological, and empirical parts. Chapter 1 introduces a model of the voluntary contribution mechanism, Chapter 2 elaborates the method of laboratory testing, and Chapter 3 summarizes the main results of the author’s research and presents answers to the research questions raised within this work. More detailed reasoning is the subject of the three papers attached in the Appendices. The first paper deals with the threshold mechanism, the second paper investigates charitable lotteries, and the third paper focuses on decentralized punishment.
