Theologico-Political Problem as the Underlying Theme of Strauss's political philosophy.

Abstract:

Hlavním tématem této práce je politická filosofie Lea Strausse. Autor pracuje s hypotézou, že hlavním tématem Straussova celoživotního bádání je tzv. teologicko-politický problém. Jedná se zejména o vztah filosofického myšlení a náboženství, které mají nepochybně vliv na politický život. Strauss kritizuje moderní odmítnutí víry ve zjevení a ukazuje, jak problematický je spor mezi rozumem a zjevením. Práce se snaží ukázat, jak důležité je pochopit toto napětí mezi základními zdroji západní civilizace a demonstruje tento spor v rámci Spinozovy a Maimonidovy filosofie. V závěru se autor pokouší odpovědět na otázku, zda byl Leo Strauss stoupencem řecké či židovské tradice.

Abstract:

The main subject of this work is the political philosophy of Leo Strauss. The author operates with hypothesis that the main subject of Strauss´s lifelong studies is so called theologico-political problem. Namely, it is about the relationship between philosophical and political thought, which make a necessary difference on the political life. Strauss speaks against modern refuting of faith in revelation and he shows, how sophisticated is the quarrel between reason and revelation. This work is trying to demonstrate, how importent is to understand the conflict between main fundamental sources of western civilization. It is demonstrated this quarrel on the philosophy of Spinoza and Maimonides. On conclusion of work the author is trying give the answer on the question whether Leo Strauss was follower of greek or jewish tradition.
