To the Development of Anglo-Spanish Conflict During the Reign of Elizabeth I.

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na konflikt mezi Anglií a Španělskem, jeho historické okolnosti, příčiny, průběh a důsledky. První část práce se zabývá okolnostmi nástupu Alžběty I. a Filipa II. a politickou situací v Evropě v té době, a jak se vyvíjela během panování obou monarchů. Pozornost je věnována zejména zahraniční politice Anglie, Španělska a Francie, "třecím plochám" mezi jednotlivými státy a vnitřním problémům, které ovlivňovaly zahraniční politiku (například náboženské války ve Francii, problém Skotska a Marie Stuartovny, revolta v Nizozemí). Je třeba také přihlédnout ke specifikům obou panovníků, k obecným principům jejich zahraniční politiky, jejich cílům a prostředkům, jimiž disponovali. Ústřední část práce spočívá v rozboru příčin vedoucích ke konfliktu a v popisu konfliktu od jeho vypuknutí roku 1585 s vyvrcholením roku 1588, kdy došlo k porážce španělské Armady. Pozornost je dále věnována událostem, které následovaly po ztroskotání španělského pokusu o invazi do Anglie, až do konečného uzavření míru nástupci Alžběty I. a Filipa II. roku 1604. Závěrečná část práce je věnována důsledkům války a nástinu politického vývoje jednotlivých států po ukončení konfliktu.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the development of Anglo-Spanish conflict, its historical circumstances, causes and effects. First part of the thesis is concerned with the circumstances of the accession of Elizabeth I and Philip II of Spain and the political situation in Europe and its development during the reign of both monarchs. The attention is paid especially to the foreign policy of England, Spain and France, "friction areas" between countries and the internal problems, which influenced the foreign policy (for example religious wars in France, problem of Scotland and Mary Stuart, Dutch revolt). Is necessary, also, have a respect to the specifics of both rulers, to the general principles of their foreign policy, their aims and instruments, which they used. Central part of the thesis lies in the analysis of causes leading to the conflict and in the description of the conflict since its outbreak in 1585, with the crucial point in 1588, when the Armada was defeated. Further the attention is paid to the events which follow after the failure of Spanish attempt at the invasion to England until the conclusion of peace by successors of Elizabeth I and Philip II in 1604. Final part of the thesis is dedicated to the consequences of the war and to the outline of the political development of the said countries after the ending of the conflict.
