The role of business ethics in the management of hotel operations

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce na téma Role podnikatelské etiky při řízení hotelového provozu je členěna do tří částí a to na teoretickou, analytickou a návrhovou. V první, tedy teoretické části, se snažím objasnit pojem etiky obecně a také jsem se zaměřila na její specifickou oblast a to na manažerskou etiku. Dále zde čtenář nalezne teoretické informace týkající se vnitřní a vnější formy podnikatelské etiky, sociální zodpovědnosti a také etických kodexů. Tato část by měla mimo jiné poukázat na to, že dodržování etických principů může hotelu přinést nejenom dobré jméno, ale také značný reálný finanční přínos. V analytické části práce byl proveden výzkum mezi zaměstnanci náhodně vybraných malých a středních hotelů po celé České republice. Tento výzkum probíhal dotazníkovými šetřeními a to prostřednictvím přímého dotazování a elektronicky pomocí emailu. Toto dotazníkové šetření proběhlo za účelem zjištění, jestli se zaměstnanci jednotlivých hotelů ztotožňují s etickým chováním, zda jednotlivé hotely používají etické kodexy a jak etiku v praxi uplatňují. Na základě celkového šetření jsem s ohledem na současné trendy vytvořila konkrétní návrhy a doporučení.

Abstract:

This thesis titled „The Role of Business Ethics in Hotel Operations Management“ is divided into three parts – theoretical part, analytical part and concluding part. In the theoretical part, my aim is to explain the term ethics in general and at the same time I focus on its particular area which is management ethics. Further, you will find there theoretical information concerning internal and external forms of business ethics, corporate social responsibility and also codes of ethics. This part should furthermore point out that compliance with codes of ethics not only helps keep the good name of a hotel, but can also bring real financial benefits. In the analytical part, there is presented my research conducted among employees of randomly chosen small and medium-sized hotels all around the Czech Republic. This research consists of a questionnaire in two modes - face-to-face administration and computerized administration via e-mail. The purpose of this research was to find out if the hotels' employees identify themselves with ethical behaviour, if individual hotels use ethic codes in their management and how they use ethics in practice. Based on this research and with regard to current trends I have created specific suggestions and recommendations.
