Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá způsobem, jakým jsou v české a slovenské akade-mické společnosti vnímány některé nestandardní variety mluvené angličtiny, a zkoumá, jak tyto přízvuky vnímají anglicky mluvící lidé s různou úrovní jazykové kompetence. Dále si klade za cíl zjistit, zda mají jedinci z České a Slovenské republiky tendenci vytvářet si negativní postoje a předsudky vůči nerodilým mluvčím angličti-ny na základe jejich přízvuků, což by mohlo vést k jazykové diskriminaci. Práce se také snaží odhalit, zda existuje souvislost mezi znalostí angličtiny, vzděláním účastní-ků a jejich vnímáním nerodilých mluvčích s přízvukem.

Abstract:

This master thesis investigates the way in which certain non-standard accents of spoken English are perceived within the Czech and Slovak academic communities and explores how these accents are viewed by non-native speakers with varying levels of linguistic competence. Furthermore, it aims to investigate whether individuals from the Czech and Slovak Republics tend to develop negative attitudes and biases against non-native English speakers due to their accents which could result in linguistic discrimination. The thesis also seeks to determine whether there is a correlation between a participant's proficiency in English, their educational backgrounds, and their perceptions of non-native accents.
