Incest in the Ancient Mediterranean World

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is the processing of the theoretical knowledge about a phenomenon called incest. The work focuses primarily on the incidence of incest in certain parts of the ancient Mediterranean. In the first part of the thesis, an incest is defined from anthropological point of view, followed by reference to the theories dealing with this issue together with their more detailed discriptions. In the second part of the thesis, attention is paid to the presence of the incest in the mythology of various geographical areas. The core of the work deals with incest during the period of classical Athens and Greco‒Roman Egypt. The end of the work focuses on ancient Rome and the legal norms that have been created there.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je spracovanie teoretických poznatkov o fenoméne nazývanom incest. Práca sa predovšetkých zameriava na výskyt incestu v určitých častiach antického Stredomoria. V prvej časti práce sa definuje incest z antropologického hľadiska, následovne je zmienka o teóriach, ktoré sa zaoberajú touto problematikou spolu s ich podrobnejším popisom. V druhej časti práce je pozornosť venovaná prítomnosti incestu v mytológií rôznych geografických oblastí. Jadro práce sa zaoberá incestom v období klasických Atén a grécko‒rímskeho Egypta. Záver práce sa sústredí na staroveký Rím a tam vzniknuté právne normy v ňom vytvorené.
