The Relations on the Korean Peninsula and the Sino-American Rivalry

Abstract:

Vztahy na Korejské poloostrově sahají až do dynastické Číny. Historický vývoj Korejského poloostrova je velmi úzce spjat s Čínskými dynastiemi, které Korejský státní celek vnímaly jako tributární stát. Tyto tendence se i dnes promítají do zahraniční politiky Čínské lidové republiky vůči oběma Koreám. Vztahy na poloostrově jsou velmi komplexní a dynamické. Se zapojením Spojených Států Amerických do této rovnice se vytváří velmi složitá síť interakcí mezi těmito čtyřmi aktéry, která situaci zásadně komplikuje. Cílem práce je tyto vzájemné vztahy zhodnotit, respektive nastínit základní proměnné, které jsou klíčovým hybatelem v regionu. Práce komplexně ukazuje, jak se navzájem jednotlivé vztahy ovlivňují a co je u každého aktéra klíčovým předmětem. Analýza je postavena na základě kompilace jednotlivých zdrojů, které se věnují vztahům na bilaterální úrovni, následné dedukci a vytvoření komplexního náhledu na vztahy Korejském poloostrově. Dlouhodobou tendencí vztahů mezi jednotlivými aktéry je i po více než třiceti letech od pádu železné opony, reflektování ideologických protipólů s ohledem na rozvíjející se ekonomickou spolupráci.

Abstract:

Relations on the Korean peninsula date back to dynastic China. The historical development of the Korean peninsula is very closely linked to the Chinese dynasties, which viewed the Korean state entity as a tributary state. These tendencies are still reflected in the foreign policy of the People's Republic of China towards the two Koreas today. Relations on the peninsula are very complex and dynamic. With the involvement of the United States of America in this equation, a very complex web of interactions is being created between these four actors, which is fundamentally complicating the situation. The aim of this paper is to assess these interactions or to outline the key variables that are the key drivers in the region. The thesis attempts to show in a comprehensive way how the different relationships influence each other and what is the key issue for each actor. The analysis is built on a compilation of individual sources that address bilateral relations, followed by deduction and the creation of a comprehensive view of Korean Peninsula relations. The long-term tendency of the relations between the various actors, even after more than thirty years since the fall of the Iron Curtain, is to reflect ideological counterpoints with regard to the developing economic cooperation.
