The Class Distinction Among African Americans in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye, Tar Baby and Song of Solomon

Abstract:

Toni Morrison is the author of many novels, but only three of them are analyzed in this thesis. They include The Bluest Eye (1970), Tar Baby (1981), and Song of Solomon (1977). These novels represent the issues of class distinction among African American people and their individual characters represent different life-styles, personalities and destinies. These novels were chosen also because of their focus on the issues of the underclass of women in the male-dominated African American society and because they imply the means how to "make it" in the mainstream society.
