Czech Philharmonic during political crisis of the 20th century

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje historii a příběhům České filharmonie, které se odehrály v průběhu nejvýznamnějších politických krizí 20. století. V jednotlivých kapitolách se budu zabývat konkrétními událostmi politického dění a jejich dopadem na chod orchestru. Popíši, jaká převažovala ve filharmonii atmosféra a jak se vyvíjela dramaturgie v momentech, kdy si těleso procházelo jednotlivými historickými momenty. Představím nejvýraznější osobnosti, které se za celou dobu působení tělesa významně podílely na jeho existenci. Jejich spletité životní příběhy budou součástí samostatných kapitol. V neposlední řadě seznámím čtenáře s pamětmi současných členů České filharmonie na předrevoluční dobu v 80. letech minulého století, na samotnou sametovou revoluci a na události, které po ní následovaly. Jejich memoáry jsou cennou součástí této práce.

Abstract:

This work is focused on the history and legacy of the Czech Philharmonic, which occurred during the most important political crises of the 20th century. The individual chapters will deal with specific political events and their impact on the functioning of the orchestra. I will describe the prevailing atmosphere in the ensemble and how the historical events impacted the development in the orchestra. The most prominent personalities, who have significantly contributed to the ensemble‘s existence, will be highlighted. Their pertinent and impactful life stories will each be part of separate chapters. Finally, the reader will be introduced to the memories of current members of the Philharmonic about the pre-revolutionary period of the 1980‘s through the Velvet Revolution itself and the events that followed. Their experiences and stories are a valuable part of this work.
