Přeshraniční partnerství měst má v Evropě velmi dlouhou tradici. V Československu, před rokem 1990, směřovala tato spolupráce do jiných socialistických zemí. V současné době Evropská unie považuje přeshraniční spolupráci měst a obcí jako významný příspěvek k posílení demokracie v rámci EU. Abstract:
Cross border town twinning in Europe has a very long tradition. In Czechoslovakia before 1990 is facing this cooperation to other socialist countries. At present, the European Union considers cross-border cooperation between towns and villages as an important contribution to the strengthening of democracy in the EU.
