Předpokládá se, že naprostá většina DNA je v buňkách přítomna jako dvouřetězcová B forma. Nicméně DNA může přechodně vytvářet alter-nativní sekundární struktury jako jsou například guaninové kvadru-plexy. It is believed that the vast majority of DNA is present in cells in the double-stranded B form. However, DNA may temporarily form alterna-tive secondary structures such as guanine quadruplexes. Sequences that can form guanine quadruplexes have been found in functionally important regions of genomes.
