Child and adolescent emotional and behavioural difficulties and factor structure of the Czech versions of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské diplomové práci zpracovává autorka téma emocionálních a behaviorálních potíží dětí a dospívajících, a to ve vztahu ke zkoumání faktorové struktury dotazníku Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) v podmínkách českého sociokulturního prostředí. Pojednání o potížích dětí a adolescentů v oblasti chování a prožívání je ukotveno v systémovém přístupu k této problematice, v němž jsou různorodé potíže chápany v širších souvislostech vývoje člověka. Je zde poukazováno na nezbytnost uvažovat v jednotlivých případech o daném jedinci jako o jedinečné bytosti v celé její komplexitě a reflektovat mnohovrstevnatý kontext, v němž vyrůstá, v němž se vyvíjí, v němž prožívá, v němž jedná, v němž interaguje a jehož je součástí. Pozornost je věnována také specifikům dětské a adolescentní psychopatologie a nosologickému pojetí emocionálních a behaviorálních poruch dětí a dospívajících. Z nosologických konceptů, ale i empirických poznatků vycházel totiž anglický pedopsychiatr Robert Goodman při vývoji dotazníku SDQ pro screening širokého spektra relativně běžných potíží dětí a adolescentů v oblasti prožívání a chování. Faktorová struktura českých verzí tohoto dotazníku je analyzována vzhledem k autorem předpokládané struktuře dotazníku na reprezentativních souborech dat získaných v rámci Evropské longitudinální studie těhotenství a dětství (European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood, ELSPAC) v různých věkových obdobích zkoumaných dětí a od různých posuzovatelů (rodičů, učitelů i samotných dětí na prahu dospívání).

Abstract:

The author deals with the topic of emotional and behavioural difficulties of children and adolescents in her bachelor diploma thesis, in relation to exploration of the factor structure of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) in the Czech socio-cultural milieu. The treatise of child and adolescent difficulties in the area of experience and behaviour is anchored in the system approach to these problems. The paper points out the necessity to consider each individual as a unique human being in his/her whole complexity and to reflect the multilevel context, which he/she growths, develops, experiences, acts and interacts in and which he/she is a part of. The attention is also devoted to the specifics of child and adolescent psychopathology and to the nosological conception of child and adolescent emotional and behavioural disorders, since on the basis of nosological concepts, as well as factor analyses, the items for the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire have been selected. The SDQ was developed by the English child psychiatrist Robert Goodman as a brief behavioural screening questionnaire for assessing the psychological adjustment of children and youths. The factor structure of the Czech versions is analysed with regard to the structure presumed by Robert Goodman. The analysis is carried out on representative data files acquired within the European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ELSPAC) in different age stages of examined children and from different types of respondents (parents, teachers and young people themselves).
