Sexual intimity of women in the context of visual arts Western "Christian" and Eastern Islamic culture

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zachycuje prolínání tématu panenství a ženské sexuální intimity v kontextu vizuálního umění a kulturních tradic mezi západní a východní kulturou. Práce se teoreticky zaměřuje na téma panenství a různé přístupy v chápání jeho významovosti. Dále se soustřeďuje na odlišnosti a podobnosti v zobrazování či naopak tabuizování tématu panenství a sexuality v odlišném kulturním prostředí. Prakticky pracuje s tématem sexuální intimity ženy a její společenské kontrole, která podléhá mužům, napříč různými kulturami. Součástí praktické části práce jsou rozhovory na tato témata s dívkami z odlišných kultur a výsledným artefaktem je instalace, která nese myšlenku proklamování ženské intimity, jako důkaz její neposkvrněnosti.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis reflects blending of topics of virginity and female sexual intimacy in the context of visual art and cultural traditions of Christian and Islamic cultures. It focuses on a theory of the topic of virginity and different approaches on understanding of its significance. It focuses also on the differences and similarities in the displaying or by contrast tabooing of the topic of virginity and sexuality in a different cultural background. It works practically with the topic of female sexual intimacy and its control in a society, which is a subject to men, across different cultures. The practical part includes interviews about these topics with women from different cultural backgrounds. Resulting installation of an artistic artefact is called "The first time" and it is based on the ritual of hanging bloody sheets after the wedding night of the newlywed. It carries the idea of proclamation of female intimacy as a proof of purity.
