Evaluation of applicability of odor repellents on the basis of large beasts for protection of stands againt Eurasian Beaver (Castor fiber)

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá myšlenkou použití pachového repelentu na bázi moči tygra jako možný typ ochrany porostů před bobrem evropským (Castor fiber). Účinnost to-hoto přípravku a reakce bobrů na něj byla zkoumána dvěma způsoby. Na polesí Tvrdo-nice byly vybrány dvě lokality s aktivním výskytem bobra. Na těchto místech byly umístěny hromádky větví, na které se nanášel repelent. Druhým způsobem byla apli-kace pachu na nedokonalé ohryzy. Z výsledků mého šetření vyplývá, že použitý pří-pravek bobra neodrazoval a pro možnou ochranu porostů se nejeví jako účinný.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the idea of using tiger urine-based odor repellent as a possible type of protection against Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). The efficacy of this repellent and the beaver's reaction to it have been examined in two ways. Two sites with active occurrence of beaver were selected in the Tvrdonice forest. At these places, piles of branches were placed on which a repellent was applied. The other way was to apply the smell to incomplete bites. The results of my investigation show, that the re-pellent used does not act as a disincentive and does not appear to be effective for the possible protection of the woodlands against the Eurasian beaver.
