Depression and life satisfaction of patients with cancer.

Anotace:

Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat a zachytit psychologické aspekty života pacientů s onkologickým onemocněním. První část práce se zabývá literárním přehledem dosavadních poznatků a teoretických základů ze sféry onkologie a psychoonkologie. V druhé části je popsán průběh a výsledky této studie. Třetí část práce obsahuje prezentaci závěrů a limitů studie. Studie probíhala ve spolupráci s Masarykovým onkologickým ústavem (MOÚ). Studie se zúčastnilo celkem 48 pacientů, z toho 33 mužů a 15 žen ve věku od 27 do 81 let. Pouze pacienti s kožními melanomy, hematologickými nádory a lymfomy byly ze studie vyřazeni. Zkoumané faktory byly kvalita života, míra deprese a úroveň úzkosti. Hledali jsme vztah mezi těmito faktory navzájem a dále jejich možné souvislosti s náročností léčby a onkologickým relapsem. Data jsme získávali za pomoci sebeposuzovacích dotazníků. Pro měření úrovně deprese byl použit dotazník BDI-II, pro měření úzkosti dotazník STAI a pro měření kvality života dotazník SQUALA. Ve výzkumném vzorku podstupovalo 13 pacientů péči kurativní a 35 pacientů péči paliativní. Podle BDI-II vykazovalo 52,1 % pacientů normální náladu, 27,1 % mírnou depresi, 18,8 % střední depresi a 2,1 % (pouze jeden pacient) silnou depresi. Byl nalezen statisticky významný vztah mezi depresí a kvalitou života (rs = -0,35; p <0,05) a mezi depresí a úzkostí (rs = 0,446; p =0,001). Vztah mezi úzkostí a kvalitou života statisticky významný nebyl. Nepodařilo se prokázat vztah mezi náročností léčby a mírou deprese, úzkosti ani kvalitou života pacientů. Pacientů s onkologickým relapsem bylo 13 a pacientů bez relapsu 35. Vztah mezi onkologickým relapsem mírou deprese, úrovní úzkosti a kvalitou života se nepodařilo prokázat.

Abstract:

The goal of this study was to explore the psychological aspects of life of oncological patients. The first part of this paper examines the literary overview and theoretical basis of oncology and psychooncology. The second part describes the study and our results. Conclusions and limits of this study are presented in the third part. The study was carried out in cooperation with the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute. 48 patients participated in the study out of which 33 were men and 13 were women with age ranging from 27 to 81 years. Only patients with skin melanomas, haematological cancers and lymphomas were excluded from the study. Factors studied included quality of life, levels of depression and state anxiety. Our aim was to find the possible connections between these factors and their relationship with difficulty of treatment and oncological relapse. Data was gathered using self-evaluation questionnaires. For the measurement of levels of depression the BDI-II questionnaire was used, for state anxiety STAI questionnaire and for the measurement of quality of life the questionnaire SQUALA. The researched sample contained 13 patients in curative care and 35 patients in palliative car. According to the BDI-II questionnaire 52,1 % of the patients were showing signs of normal mood, 27,1 % mild depression, 18,8 % moderate depression and 2,1 % (one patient) severe depression. Statistically significant relationship was found between depression and quality of life (rs = -0,35; p <0,05) and between depression and anxiety (rs = 0,446; p =0,001). Relationship between anxiety and quality of life was not statistically significant. There was no significant relationship between levels of depression, anxiety and quality of life based on the difficulty of treatment underwent by the patients. There were 13 patients with oncological relapse and 35 patients without. The relationship between oncological relapse depression, anxiety and quality of life was not statistically significant.
