Ester Krumbachová and her Work for Theatre

Abstract:

Anotace Tématem této bakalářské práce je především osobnost a práce Ester Krumbachové. Je jakýmsi souhrnem všech materiálů, které mapují a konkretizují její uměleckou činnost pro divadlo. Krumbachová je často v této oblasti, byť neprávem, opomíjena, i když její jméno by mělo neodmyslitelně patřit k dějinám české scénografie a kostýmování. V práci jsem se soustředila nejen na život Ester Krumbachové spojený a ovlivněný divadlem, ale především na sestavení co nejucelenějšího soupisu všech inscenací, na kterých se Krumbachová jakýmkoli způsobem podílela. K tomu také patřilí prostudování recenzí na jednotlivá představení, které se o její činnosti zmiňují a z několika dochovaných fotografií, popisů a vzpomínek pamětníků načrtávám vzhled kostýmů, scény nebo celé výpravy, podle toho, na jaké složce představení se u té které inscenace Krumbachová uplatnila. První kapitola je zaměřená na život Ester Krumbachové. Počínaje studiem, přes její nástup do divadla v Českých Budějovicích až po přechod k filmu a následnému zákazu tvorby. Kapitola druhá se soustředí na její tvůrčí činnost, osvětluje jakým způsobem Krumbachová tvořila a v jakých kontextech se její tvorba pohybovala. Po kapitole třetí, která je specializovaná na její práci s kostýmem následuje kapitola orientovaná na výběr několika prvků, které Krumbachová používala opakovaně a které její divadelní tvorbě dávají jednotící charakter. Pátá kapitola představuje její nejdůležitější a nejčastější spolupracovníky – režiséra a herce Miroslava Macháčka a scénografa Josefa Svobodu, se kterým pracovala na inscenacích v Národním divadle. Kapitoly šest, sedm a osm jsou o její práci v jednotlivých divadlech chronologicky (tzn. Divadlo v Českých Budějovicích, Městská divadla pražská a Národní divadlo). Kapitola poslední je pak o její další tvorbě po roce 1989. Byly to dvě inscenace – Cid, ke kterému vytvořila kostýmy a Smraďoch Šindler má jít okamžitě domů, u které byla autorkou textu.

Abstract:

The goal of this work is to bring a complete and professional report on Ester Krumbachová and her work for the theatre. The contribution of this work is thus not simply the study of all available documents and materials related to this person, but foremost a complete list of inscenations which Krumbachová certainly took part on. Her name is not generally connected too tightly in general consciousness. The list however shows how expressively has she affected its development and that her contribution in the area of theatre costumes and scenographics is quite large, just as her influence on its further development. In about 10 years, she moved from the theatre in České Budějovice to the National theatre – a feat not many theatre artists have accomplished. She cooperated with many extraordinary and significant personalities, such as Josef Svoboda or Rudolf Hrušínský and everyone speaks of her as of a very talented person, who could instill an un-overlookable feel to inscenations. A possible follow-up or continuation of this theme would, in my opinion, be the creation of a similar list of inscenations of the director Miroslav Macháček, who was very close to the life and work of Ester Krumbachová, however who’s work in the period I examine in this work (1954 – 1964) almost copies that of Ester Krumbachová. This would make the following research for his professional directing and acting starts much easier. Additionally, in this timeframe their work seemed to be in a kind of tandem, and could be considered inseparable as well as mutually influenced by one another. Many shortcomings can of course be pointed out in the work, I myself would above all criticize the insufficient mapped period of her beginnings in České Budějovice. My research in the archives was halted by external circumstances there. I could thus only use a handful of exact and available pieces of date. The possibility of examining this period more precisely and filling in this work with the missing data and information will only arise once the archive of the theatre in České Budějovice is reconstructed and reopened. This could however take several months or even years.
