Europeanization of programs and manifestos of political parties Fidesz and MSZP

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the European Union on the electoral programmes of the two strongest Hungarian political parties, that is, with the Europeanisation of their programmatics in the period of the years 2000 – 2012. The parties in question are MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party) and Fidesz (Hungarian Civic Union) and the goal of the thesis is to find out how the process of Europeanisation of their electoral programmes evolved on the basis of the analysis of these programmes and if it is possible at all to talk about the quantitative or qualitative changes within this period. It is also possible to presume that the Europeanisation itself took place in this period because of direct or indirect pressure of the EU on the party system due to the fact that the European Union has become an important point in the frame of the parties’ programmes. The thesis furthermore uses certain typologies to compare the quantitative and qualitative changes within the electoral programmes concerning national parliamentary elections as well as the elections to the European parliament.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá vplyvom EÚ na volebné programy dvoch najsilnejších maďarských politických strán, teda europeizáciu ich programatiky v období 2000 – 2012. Skúmané strany sú MSZP a Fidesz, pričom cieľom práce je zistiť ako prebiehala europeizácia volebných programov strán na základe ich analýzy a či je možné hovoriť o kvantitatívnych či kvalitatívnych zmenách v rámci tohto obdobia. Je pri tom možné predpokladať, že k europeizácii volebných programov v danom období dochádzalo z dôvodu priameho i nepriameho tlaku EÚ na stranícky systém, vzhľadom na fakt, že sa z Európskej únie stal dôležitý bod v rámci straníckych programov. Práca následne na základe typológií porovnáva kvalitatívnu a kvantitatívnu zmenu v rámci volebných programov týkajúcich sa parlamentných volieb ako i volieb do Európskeho parlamentu.
