Selected statistical methods for evaluation of genetic data in the examples

Abstract:

Post-genomová éra je symbolem 21. století, kdy po přečtení celé jaderné DNA člověka stojíme před úkolem hledání asociací genetických markerů s nemocemi. Pouze pro pár genů, z celkového počtu 20 – 25 tisíc u člověka, známe jejich funkci a roli v našem organismu. Většina znaků a nemocí je komplexního charakteru. Což znamená, že za jejich projevem stojí komplex faktorů genetických (kauzální je současný výskyt více genetický markerů) a faktorů prostředí, ve kterém žijeme. Znalost kauzálních markerů je důležitá v léčbě pacientů, kde může být léčba ušita přímo na míru. Zabezpečení vhodného výběr léku s minimem vedlejších účinků a ideální dávkování pro každého pacienta je hudbou blízké budoucnosti. Aby výzkumníci v genetice, biologii a medicíně, kteří pracují s genetickými daty, mohli tato data kvalitně zpracovat, potřebují mít znalost statistických metod používaných pro zpracování genetických dat. Jako úvod do některých z těchto metod by měl posloužit tento text, jehož další rozšíření do budoucna plánuji.

Abstract:

Post-genome era is a symbol of 21st century. Now, after “reading” the whole nucleus DNA of human is the time for searching the associations of genetic markers with the specific diseases. In the human there are 20 – 25 thousand genes and only for few of them, we know their function. Most of the traits and diseases are of complex character. It means they are caused by complex factors: genetic (causative is occurrence of more certain genetic variants together) and environmental factors. Knowledge of causative genetic markers allows us to follow them in population during treatment of patients. Knowledge of causative genetic markers is important for patients, so they can be treated according to their genetic predispositions. As well dosage of drug can be modified according to the variant of known genetic marker, which helps eliminate negative effects. In the future this might be common practice. In order that researchers in genetics, biology and medicine, could analyze their genetic data properly, they need a knowledge of methods used in statistical genetics. This text might help them to orientate in some of the various methods used. Current text will be further extended in the future.
