Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on corporate insolvencies in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo vyhodnotit vliv pandemie COVID-19 na insolvenčních řízení v České republice, identifikovat oblasti ekonomiky, které utrpěly nejvíce, a navrhnout metody, jimiž by subjekty mohly předejít úpadku. V teoretické části jsou popsány základní pojmy a vývoj insolvenčního práva společně s popisem vlivu pandemie COVID-19. Praktická část se zabývá analýzou dopadu koronavirové krize na insolvence právnických osob, analýzou nejpostiženějších odvětví a v neposlední řadě poskytuje doporučení opatření proti úpadku. Zatímco vliv pandemie na insolvence nebyl potvrzen, nejvíce zasaženými odvětvími byly velkoobchod a maloobchod, stavebnictví, ubytování, stravování a pohostinství a administrativní a podpůrné činnosti. Prevence úpadku zahrnuje sledování mezery krytí, využití preventivní restrukturalizace a zavedení nástrojů včasného varování.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on insolvency proceedings in the Czech Republic, identify the areas of the economy that suffered the most, and propose methods by which entities could prevent bankruptcy. In the theoretical part, basic concepts and the development of insolvency law are described, along with a description of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The practical part includes analysis of the impact of the coronavirus crisis on insolvencies, analysis of the most affected sectors, and provides recommendations for measures against bankruptcy. While the impact of the pandemic on insolvencies was not confirmed, the most affected sectors were wholesale and retail, construction, accommodation, catering and hospitality, and administrative and support activities. Bankruptcy prevention includes monitoring the coverage gap, the use of preventive restructuring, and implementing early warning tools.
