Failed States in sub-Saharan Africa - The Case study of Chad

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje problematice selhávajících a slabých států a je zaměřena na analýzu Čadu. Uvádí možné definice těchto typů států. Poté se práce zaměřuje na indexy hodnotící slabou státnost, především na každoročně vyhotovovaný Failed States Index. Stěžejní částí bakalářské práce je analýza Čadu. Pro pochopení situace bude nastíněna jeho historie, jak koloniální tak historie nezávislého Čadu. Analýza bude provedena na základě jednotlivých indikátorů Failed States Indexu. V práci bude zhodnocena sociální, ekonomická i politicko-bezpečnostní oblast země.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with problems of failed and weak states with the focus on the analysis of Chad. The thesis states possible definitions of these types of states. In addition, the thesis is focused on indexes that evaluate the weak statehood, especially on the yearly prepared Failed States Index. The central part of the thesis is an analysis of Chad. To understand the present situation in Chad, its history will be described in time periods, both colonial and independent. The analysis will be performed on the basic individual indicators of Failed States Index. In the end, the thesis will be evaluated in the social, economic, and political-security areas of the country.
