Ordentliche Weise in harpsichord treatises of the second half of the 18th century

Abstract:

Předmětem práce byl popis ordentliche Weise, tj. základního úhozu na klávesových nástrojích, v německých traktátech druhé poloviny 18. století. Jako autoři nejlépe reprezentující dané období byli vybráni Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg a Daniel Gottlob Türk. Výsledkem práce je nejen přehled informací nalezených v traktátech těchto autorů, ale také srovnání obsahu a kontextu těchto tvrzení. Práce obsahuje podrobný stav bádání, který zahrnuje literaturu od konce 19. století až do současnosti, přičemž se zabývá jak teoretickými pojednáními, tak i praktickými učebnicemi hry. Jádro práce je rozbor samotných traktátů. Zde byly vyčleněny pasáže týkající se postavení ruky a prstů, různých typů artikulace a v neposlední řadě kapitoly věnované interpretaci. Tyto jsou mezi sebou srovnány a nalezené rozdíly komentovány.

Abstract:

The subject of the thesis was the description of ordentliche Weise, the ordinary manner of keyboard touch, in German treatises of the second half of the 18th century. As the representative authors of the given period, we selected Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg and Daniel Gottlob Türk. The outcome of the thesis is not only an overview of information found in the treatises of these authors, but also a comparison of the meaning and context of their statements. The thesis includes detailed chapter on the state of art, which gives an overview of literature spanning the period between the end of 19th century and the present. It deals with theoretical studies, as well as practical manuals. The core of the thesis is an analysis of the above-mentioned treatises. The passages related to the hand and finger position, various types of articulation and the chapters on interpretation were highlighted. These were then compared and the differences explained in the commentary.
