The History of Wallpaper from the Mid-19th Century and Optical Illusion in the Interior

Abstract:

První část diplomové práce se věnuje historii tapet od poloviny 19. století do současnosti. Zaměřuje se na vývoj v Evropě, zejména Británii a v USA. Popisuje důležité vývojové mezníky (rehabilitace designu v Anglii) a technologické postupy, které ovlivnily tapetový průmysl. Další tematický okruh je věnován optickým iluzím a stručně charakterizuje historický vývoj iluzivního zobrazování v umění a perspektivy. Součástí práce je kapitola, která se věnuje teorii vidění, percepční teorii a rozděluje optické iluze. Poslední část diplomové práce se zabývá optickými iluzemi v interiéru a prezentuje vybrané osobnosti a jejich tvorbu.

Abstract:

The first part of this Diploma Thesis describes the history of wallpaper from the mid-19th century to today. It focuses on its evolution in Europe, especially in the UK, and in the USA. This work describes important evolution milestones (design rehabilitation in UK) and technological processes which affected the wallpaper industry. The following part is dedicated to optical illusions and briefly describes the historical development of illusion making in art and perspective. The integral parts of this thesis are the theory of visual sense, the perceptional theory and descriptions of optical illusions. The final part of this Diploma Thesis is dedicated to optical illusions in interiors and it presents chosen designers and their works.
