Aum Shinrikyo in the Context of Contemporary Japanese Religiousity

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na japonské „nové“ nové náboženství Óm šinrikjó, které se do historie zapsalo především útokem na tokijské metro v březnu 1995. V práci je nastíněn život zakladatele a vůdce Šókó Asahary a vývoj Óm šinrikjó až do současné doby. Nejdůležitější část se zabývá rozborem vztahu Óm šinrikjó k násilí. Násilí bylo součástí hnutí od samého počátku. Hlavním úkolem práce je tedy podchytit a analyzovat příčiny náboženského násilí v Óm šinrikjó. Prostor je také poskytnut reakcím japonské společnosti na útok a změnám, které podnítil.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the Japanese „new“ new religion Aum Shinrikyo which came to the history mainly by the attack on Tokyo subway on March 1995. In the thesis is described the life of the founder and leader Shoko Asahara and the evolution of the Aum Shinrikyo until nowadays. The most important part deals with analysis of the relationship between Aum Shinrikyo and violence. Violence has been part of the movement from the beginning. The main target of the thesis is analyse causes of the religious violence in Aum Shinrikyo. Space is also provided to the reactions of the Japanese society to the attack and to the changes which it has provoked.
