Information Graphic Design at a Zoo

Abstract:

Tato práce je seznámením s historickým vývojem piktogramu, který úzce souvisí z dějinami grafického designu. Dále popisuji principy tvorby piktogramů a jeho celých řad, kde mluvím o jedinečnosti každého piktogramu, který musí být zároveň součástí celé řady. Kde barva a následné začlenění do prostoru hraje svou důležitou roli. V teoretické části se také věnuji popisu orientačních systémů několika vybraných zahrad, jsou to Washington Natio-nal Zoo, Minnesota Zoo a Zoo Praha. V závěru teoretické části uvádím patnáct vybraných bájných zvířat, zabývám se jejich historií a jejich symbolikou. V části praktické popisuji vývoj piktogramů bájných zvířat a píšu o celém orientačním systému v dětských školkách společně s hrou.

Abstract:

This work is a familiarization with the historic development of a pictogram which is closely linked to the history of graphic design. Furthermore I describe the principles of creating pictograms and entire series of them, where I talk about the uniqueness of each pictogram which must be at the same time incorporated into the series. This is where the color and the subsequent integration into the area play an important role. In the theoretical part I also deal with a description of the orientational systems of several selected zoos, the Washing-ton's National Zoo, the Minnesota Zoo and the Prague Zoo. At the end of the theoretical part I mention fifteen selected mythical animals, I look into their history and their symbo-lism. In the practical part I describe the pictogram development of mythical animals and I write about the whole orientation system in the nursery schools, together with games.
