Categorical syllogisms and their methods of solutions

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je představit algebraickou metodu řešení kategorických sylogismů podle George Boola. Tomu předchází výklad o výrocích, kterými se Boole zabýval v rámci výrokové logiky, o termínech, jejich vztazích, a především o jejich distribuční hodnotě, která je klíčem k interpretaci Boolova zápisu v podání, jež nabízí tato práce. K obhájení některých Boolových závěrů je nastíněn problém existenčního importu. Rozebrání jednotlivých figur slouží nejen ke snadnějšímu porovnání Boolových výsledků, ale také k vyzdvihnutí pružnosti algebraických rovnic.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to present an algebraic method of solutions of categorical syllogisms by Gorge Boole. At first it will be spoken about propositions, with which Boole deals in context of propositional logic, about terms, their relastionships and their distributional value which is a key of interpretation of Boole's notation at form which is presented in this thesis. The problem of existential import will be introduced in order to justify some of Boole's solutions. Description of all figures is used for easier comparing of Boole's solutions on the one hand, and to show possibilities of algebraic equations on the other.
