Drug cartels as a security problem in Mexico

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je objasnit problematiku mexických drogových kartelů a jejich vliv na bezpečnost Mexika. Pro ucelený pohled je cílem práce také zanalyzovat jaké kroky byly provedeny pro zastavení jejich aktivity prostřednictvím policejních reforem na federální úrovni. Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na období od roku 2006, kdy byla zahájena válka proti drogovým kartelů, až po rok 2018. Toto období představuje vládu dvou prezidentů Felipa Calderóna a Enrique Peña Nieto. Důležitými ukazateli v analytické části jsou míra vražd a míra korupce, která bude zjištěna pomocí Indexu vnímání korupce.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to clarify the issue of Mexican drug cartels and their impact on the security of Mexico. For a comprehensive view, the aim of the work is also to analyse what steps have been taken to stop drug cartels activities through police reforms on the federal level. The bachelor thesis focuses on the period from 2006, when the war against drug cartels began, to 2018. This period represents the government of two presidents Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto. Important indicators in the analytical part are the murder rate and the corruption rate, which will be determined using the Corruption perception index.
