History of the Premonstratensian Order and its most important seat in the Czech Republic - Strahov Monastery

Abstract:

Kvalifikační práce pojednává o premonstrátském řádu, který působí i na našem území. Řád je neodmyslitelně spjat se svým zakladatelem svatým Norbertem, kterému se jako prvnímu v církevních dějinách podařilo realizovat myšlenku třetího řádu, tedy spojení laiků mimo klášter s duchovním životem bratří a sester v klášterech. V průběhu staletí, která byla zasažena válkami, utrpěl premonstrátský řád značné ztráty, ze kterých se následně některé kláštery zcela obnovit nepodařilo. Ve druhé kapitole jsem se zaměřila na rozbor okolností, ze kterých mohl svatý Norbert při formování premonstrátského řádu vycházet. Došla jsem k závěru, že svatý Norbert vycházel z eremitství, řehole svatého Benedikta, přičemž spojil eremitský život s kanovnickým způsobem života. Následně svatý Norbert došel k přesvědčení, že pro ideální životní model, je důležité propojení vita communio a vita activa, jakožto propojení monastických forem života a zároveň aktivním, jehož podstatnou částí je apoštolát, hlásání a šíření křesťanské víry. Premonstrátský řád můžeme charakterizovat jako syntézou kanovnického a monastického života, jejíž osu tvoří Augustinova řehole. Hlavním posláním řeholníků je ve slavnostní bohoslužbě, eucharistické a mariánské úctě kajícím životě a apoštolátu formou farní duchovní správy. Druhá polovina práce poukazuje na historii řádu na našem území a historii samotného Strahovského kláštera. Došla jsem k závěru, že některé významné osobnosti královské kanonie, měli značný vliv na vládnoucí třídu či na samotného papeže. Následkem toho se některým strahovským opatům povedlo vyjednat lepší podmínky pro fungování kláštera.

Abstract:

The qualification thesis deals with the Premonstratensian order, which also operates in our territory. The order is inextricably linked with its founder, St. Norbert, who was the first in church history who realized the idea of the Third Order, which means the connection of the uninitiated people outside the monastery with the spiritual life of brothers and sisters in monasteries. During the centuries affected by the wars, the Premonstratensian Order suffered considerable losses, from which some monasteries were not completely restored. In the second chapter, I focused on the analysis of the circumstances on which St. Norbert could have been based in the formation of the Premonstratensian Order. I came to the conclusion that St. Norbert was based on the Eremite, the Order of St. Benedict, combining Eremite life with the canonical way of life. He subsequently came to the conclusion that for the ideal model of life, the connection of vita communio and vita activa is important, as the connection of monastic forms of life and at the same time active, an essential part of which is the apostolate, proclamation and spread of the Christian faith. The Premonstratensian order can be characterized as a synthesis of canonical and monastic life, the axis of which is formed by the Order of Augustine. The main mission of the monks is in solemn worship, the Eucharistic and Marian veneration of life and apostolate in the form of parish clerical administration. The second half of the work points to the history of the order in our territory and the history of the Strahov Monastery itself. I have come to the conclusion that some important personalities of the royal canon have had a considerable influence on the ruling class or on the pope himself. As a result, some abbots in Strahov managed to negotiate better conditions for the functioning of the monastery.
