The relationships between personality characteristics, religiosity and attitudes towards sexual minorities

Abstract:

Cílem předkládané diplomové práce bylo zmapovat souvislosti mezi osobnostními charakteristikami, religiozitou a postoji k sexuálním menšinám, konkrétně k tzv. LGBT komunitě. Výzkum byl proveden na studentech psychologie, soubor zahrnoval celkem 107 osob, z toho 79 žen a 25 mužů. Věkové rozpětí respondentů bylo od 19 do 29 let.Míra osobnostních charakteristik zkoumaných osob byla posuzována NEO pětifaktorovým osobnostním inventářem, pro zjištění religiozity a postojů k sexuálním menšinám byl vytvořen vlastní dotazník. Z výsledků vyplývá, že ve výzkumném souboru není signifikantní rozdíl ve sledovaných osobnostních charakteristikách z pohledu udávané religiozity. Stejně tak jsme nenalezli rozdíly mezi věřícími a nevěřícími v míře přízně ani sociální distance k LGBT osobám. Muži dosahovali statisticky významně nižší míry přízně k LGBT osobám (t = -3,165; p<0,05), ale už se od žen nelišili v míře sociální distance k těmto sexuálním menšinám. Výsledky ukázaly méně těsný, avšak statisticky významný (r = 0,214; p<0,05) vztah mezi mírou přívětivosti a mírou přízně k LGBT osobám, u ostatních sledovaných dimenzí osobnosti nebyl nalezen významný vztah s úrovní přízně k LGBT osobám.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the relationships between personal characteristics, religiosity and attitudes towards sexual minorities, more specifically towards LGBT community. The research sample consisted of 107 psychology students aged from 19 to 29 years (79 females and 25 males). Personal characteristics levels were measured by Czech version of NEO five factor inventory, to describe religiosity and attitudes towards sexual minorities we created our own questionnaire. Final results showed that there is no significant difference in observed personal characteristics from religiosity rate point of view. Also, we did not find differences between believers and non-believers in the rate of favour or social distance towards LGBT. We found that men had statistically lower rate of favour towards LGBT than women (t = −3,165; p<0,05). But there was no significant difference between men and women at the rate of social distance to LGBT. The results showed little, but statistically significant (r = 0,214; p<0,05) relation between agreeableness and the rate of favour towards LGBT. We did not find another significance between other personal characteristics and the rate of favour towards LGBT.
