Non-native Speakers and Aspects of Connected Speech

Abstract:

This undergraduate thesis is concerned with the topic of aspects of connected speech, an important component of phonetics and phonology, which greatly modifies spoken form of English language. The paper observes the frequency of occurrences of these phenomena in informal discourse realized by non-native speakers. Attention is mainly given to assimilation, elision and linking. The thesis contains theoretical background providing coherent information regarding the studied features and a practical part, which includes a description of used methods, the actual analysis and a summary of the results.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá otázkou aspektů spojité řeči, důležitého prvku fonetiky a fonologie, jež výrazně ovlivňuje mluvenou podobu anglického jazyka a zkoumá frekvenci užití těchto jevů v promluvách nerodilých mluvčí. Pozornost je věnována především asimilaci, elizi a spojování. Práce obsahuje teoretickou část, která poskytuje ucelené informace týkající se zkoumaných jevů a část praktickou. Ta zahrnuje popis metody výzkumu a analyzovaných materiálu, dále pak samotnou analýzu a souhrn výsledků.
