Development of Support Services for Geographical Information Provision Based on WMS

Abstract:

Diplomová práce na téma "Vývoj podpůrných služeb pro poskytování geoprostorových informací na bázi WMS" pojednává o aktuálně používaných webových službách v oblasti geoinformačních technologií, jejich využití a poskytování funkcionality při práci s prostorovými informacemi. Dále jsou v práci popsány standardy a normy, které jsou využity při poskytování geografických dat, nebo jsou ve webových službách implementovány. V praktické části se práce věnuje popisu použité technologie cloudového řešení, návrhu a implementaci aplikace, jenž slouží jako ucelený katalog dostupných WMS serverů v České republice. Cílem práce bylo vytvořit webovou aplikaci naprogramovanou v jazyce Python fungující v cloudovém řešení s názvem "Google App Engine". Tato aplikace by měla obsahovat určité podpůrné služby pro poskytování geoprosotrových informací na bázi standardu "Web Map Service". Výsledná aplikace v podobě interaktivního katalogu může sloužit jak odborníkům v GIS, kteří hledají geografická data, tak i běžným uživatelům, kteří nahlíží do mapových dat, která nejsou běžně k dispozici. Součásti diplomové práce je zároveň i podrobná uživatelská dokumentace k vytvořené aplikaci.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis on "Development of Support Services for Geographical Information Provision Based on WMS" deals with the currently used web services in the area of geoinformation technologies, their use and providing functionality for working with spatial information. This work also describes the standards which are employed for providing geographic data or are implemented within the web services. The practical part deals with the description of the technology used for cloud-based solution and describes the design and implementation of the application which serves as a compact catalog of available WMS servers in the Czech Republic. The aim was to create a web application written in Python that would run on the "Google App Engine" cloud solution. This application should incorporate certain support services for providing geospatial information based on "Web Map Service" standard. The resulting application in the form of interactive catalog may serve both GIS professionals who are looking for geographic data and ordinary users who just like to browse through some map data that are not usually available. The thesis also contains a detailed user documentation for the developed application.
