Aristocratic Seals in the Czech Lands between the Years 1253 and 1278

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se věnuje šlechtické sfragistice v Českých zemích po dobu vlády Přemysla Otakara II., její hlavní rozsah je tedy ohraničen lety 1253 a 1278, nicméně nastiňuje i obecný vývoj pečetí světských feudálů do roku 1278. Práce přináší zejména ucelenou kolekci dochovaných šlechtických pečetí, vydaných ve čtvrtém svazku pátého dílu edice Codex diplomaticus et epistolaris regni Bohemiae, doplněnou o kresby ze Sedláčkových Atlasů erbů a pečetí, které jsou zde nově (a vůbec poprvé souhrnně) zpracovány jak po stránce vývoje jednotlivých prvků těchto pečetí, včetně stanovení jejich vzájemné závislosti, tak z hlediska vazby pečetního obrazu na hmotnou kulturu. Součástí práce je také chronologický soupis zpracovaných pečetí společně s jejich vyobrazením, představení nových možností sfragistického přístupu k pečetní materii a přehled chyb, zjištěných ve výše zmíněné kritické edici.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on aristocratic sigillography in the Czech lands by the reign of Přemysl Otakar II., its main range is between years 1253 and 1278, nevertheless it adumbrates general seal-evolution of temporal feudalists to the year 1278. The thesis brings especially a compact set of extant aristocratic seals published in the fourth fascicle of the fifth volume of the edition Codex diplomaticus et epistolaris regni Bohemiae supplied of Sedláčeks´drawings from the Atlasy erbů a pečetí. These seals are there newly (and for the first time embracively at all) compiled in the point of view of the evolution of seal-single-elements with their interdependence, furthermore the relation between the seal image and material culture. As a part of this thesis is a list of possessors of processed seals together with their illustration, then presentation of new possibilities of the sigillografical approach to the seals and a compendium of mistakes detected in the critical edition mentioned above.
