Bystanders' reactions to cyberbullying

Abstract:

V této práci jsem se zkoumala podpůrné a pasivní reakce a empatickou odezvu přihlížejících na kyberšikanu. Na vzorku 453 českých adolescentů, kteří se stali svědky kyberšikany, jsem zkoumala spojitosti mezi individuálními faktory (vulnerabilitou a prosociálními tendencemi), vlivem typu vztahu k dalším aktérům, emoční reakci (ve formě empatie a strachu), pobídky ve formě žádosti o pomoc a vlivu kontextu, který je pro kyberšikanu specifický. Ukázalo se, že podpůrná reakce je spojena s prosociálními tendencemi, empatií a pobídkou; je častější u dívek než chlapců (věk ale nehraje v tomto vztahu žádnou roli), a reakce je také ovlivněna typem vztahu k oběti a agresorovi. Vulnerabilita ani strach zasáhnout nemají žádný efekt. Navíc, empatická reakce se mění v závislosti na podmínkách, v nichž se přihlížející s kyberšikanou setkali; empatická reakce je vyvolána ve chvíli, kdy je ve více „přímém" kontaktu s aktéry i situací.

Abstract:

In this study, I examined supportive and passive reactions of bystanders in cyberbullying. On a sample of 453 Czech adolescents, bystanders of ongoing cyberbullying, I examined the link between individual characteristics (vulnerability and prosocial tendencies), the role of relationship among actors (i.e. cyber-bystanders, cyber-victims, cyber-bullies), the emotional response (empathy and fear), incentive in the form of request for help, and contextual factors. I found that support is connected with prosocial tendencies, empathy and incentive; it is more common among girls (but age had no effect), and it is influenced by the relationships with victim and bully. Neither vulnerability nor fear had any effect. Moreover, empathic response varies across different conditions in which bystanders encountered cyberbullying; empathy is aroused in conditions of “directness” or “proximity”.
