Postmodern culture and its influence on relationships

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je poukázat na proměnu současných partnerských vztahů. S kulturní proměnou tří hlavních proměnných, které podobu partnerských vztahů ovlivňují, se změnil i jejich význam pro jedince. Jsou jimi identita, blízkost a láska. Společná intimní zkušenost partnerů se odvíjí od jejich vzájemného vlivu, která v postmodernitě nabývá i jiných podob. Hlavní otázkou tohoto textu tedy je Jakým způsobem se v současné společnosti formují partnerské vztahy? V první části práce jsou představeny postmoderní individualistické teorie o proměnnách identity a partnerství, s cílem upozornit na paradoxní společenské požadavky ohledně autonomie individua a jejich neslučitelnosti s trvalostí závazku. V druhé části práce je koncept potřeby blízkosti mezi lidmi propojen s konceptem virtuální reality, s důrazem na její možnosti a vlivy tvorby partnerských vztahů. V poslední části jsou porovnány podoby lásky v realitě virtuálních vztahů na dálku s projevy lásky v partnerském vztahu každodenním.

Abstract:

The main goal of my Master's thesis is to point out on change of relationships between partners. The meaning for an individual has changed with the cultural transformation of 3 main variables that are affecting the shape of relationships between partners. They are identity, proximity and love. A common intimate experience of partners, that also takes other forms in postmodernity, is based on their mutual influence. The main question of this thesis is How are partnerships forming in today's society? The first part of this thesis is about postmodern individualist theories about identity and partnership, the aim is to highlight paradoxical social demands regarding individual autonomy and their incompatibility with the sustainability of the commitment. The second part talks about the concept of the need for proximity between people is linked to the concept of virtual reality with an emphasis on its capabilities and the effects of creating relationships between partners. The last part is comparing the forms of love in the reality of virtual long distance relationships with expressions of love in everyday partnership.
