Redefining the welfare state from the 1980s

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje primárně odbobí od konce sedmdesátých let až do druhé poloviny let devadesátých se zaměřením na vývoj západních levicových stran. Mapuje jejich přerod ze socialistického směřování směrem do středu politického spektra. Na příkladu Labouristické strany Velké Británie je popsán proces, kterým se strana vypořádává s přerodem západních demokrací směrem k neo-liberalismu a věnuje se i procesu přerodu vnitřních institucí strany se zaměřením na omezení vlivu odborů. Komparartivní metodou pak práce vyhodnocuje vlivy, které na stranu působí a nutí jí k transformaci za účelem většího volebního zisku, který by jí vrátil zpět do vládní pozice.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses primarily on the period from the late seventies to the second half of the nineties, with a focus on the development of the western left-wing parties. It maps their transition from their socialist direction to the center of the political spectrum. On the example of the Labor Party of Great Britain it describes the process by which the party is dealing with the transformation of Western democracies towards neoliberalism and it also discusses the process of transforming the party's internal institutions with a focus on reducing union influence. By a comparative method, the work then evaluates the influences that affect the party and forces it to transform for the purpose of greater electoral profit, which would bring it back to the government position.
