Monitoring and analysis of the skull shape based on WebGL

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá tématikou využití technologie WebGL pro zobrazení, analýzu a interaktivní práci s 3D grafikou v internetovém prohlížeči. V rámci práce byla vytvořena webová aplikace pro monitorování a analýzu tvaru hlavy pacientů trpících polohovou deformitou lebky. Aplikace je navržena, aby bylo umožněno interaktivní sledování průběhu léčby jak klinickými pracovníky, lékaři, tak i samotnými pacienty. Stěžejní část aplikace byla vytvořena s využitím WebGL a Three.js pro jednoduché, responsivní a uživatelsky přívětivné ovládání. Aplikace je taktéž hardwarově akcelerovatelná - část kódů je vykonávána grafickou kartou, což umožňuje rychlé a bezproblémové vykreslování 3D grafiky. Mezi základní funkce aplikace patří načtení dvou libovolných skenů formátu STL, zobrazení těchto dat a interaktivní manipulace s nimi. Další funkcí je vzájemné zarovnání skenů, výpočet a grafické zobrazení rovinných řezů. Klinické výpočty a porovnání jsou v reálné čase zobrazovány v informační tabulce.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the usage of WebGL for projecting, analyzing and working interactively with 3D graphics in a web browser. For the purpose of the thesis a web application which will be used to monitor and analyze shapes of head of patients with a positional cranial deformity has been created. The application is designed in a manner enabling the interactive monitoring of the progress of the treatment by medical staff as well as by patients themselves. The pivotal part of the application was created with the use of WebGL and Three.js in order to ensure a simple, responsive and user-friendly usage. Furthermore, the application is hardware-accelerated - a proportion of the codes is carried out by the graphics card which enables quick and problem-free rendering of 3D graphics. The basic functions of the application include loading two scans in the STL format, projecting the data and manipulating them. Another function of the application is aligning the scans as well as computation and graphical projection of cross sections. Important clinical computations and comparisons are displayed in the information table in real time.
