Statistical delimitation of species boundaries in African <I>Arvicanthis</I> rodents

Abstract:

Rod Arvicanthis je podstatnou skupinou hlodavců v subsaharské Africe. Jejich rozmanité genealogické vztahy ještě nebyly zcela popsány, což by bylo vhodné změnit pro účely dalších vědeckých zkoumání. V této bakalářské práci se nejdříve seznámíte s pojmem druhu a jeho různých dru-hových konceptů, dále pak s fylogenetickým stromem a modelem vícedruhové koalescence. Budou zde také popsány metody Bayesovské analýzy sloužící k vymezení druhů a popisu vztahů mezi nimi. Výsledkem jsou stromy ukazující tyto vymezení a vztahy a také stromy zobrazující parametry modelu MSC a hodnoty indexu genealogické odlišnosti. Výsledky naznačují vymezení všech druhů zvlášť z fylogenetického hlediska, avšak z jiného úhlu pohledu se tyto druhy mohou spojit v jeden.

Abstract:

The genus Arvicanthis is a substantial group of rodents in sub-Saharan Africa. Their diverse genealogical relationships have not been fully described yet, which would be useful to change for further scientific investigations. This bachelor thesis will first introduce the concept of species and its various species concepts, then the phylogenetic tree and the model of multi-species coalescence. We will also describe methods of Bayesian analysis, which are important because of species delimitation and species tree estimation. The results show these species trees and species delimitation and suggest species trees with parameters of the MSC model and genealogical divergence index. The results indicate the delimitation of all species separately from a phylogenetic point of view, but from another point of view these species could coalesce into one.
