Dan Brown Phenomenon and Its Potential for Teaching Culture

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá využitím architektonických a kulturních aspektů v knize Dana Browna s názvem Andělé a Démoni. Na rozdíl od velkého množství autorů, Brown tyto aspekty v příběhu nevyužívá jen jako doplňující či okrasné, v jeho podání mají v příběhu klíčovou roli a Brown do nich celý příběh zasazuje a staví na nich. Hlavním cílem této práce je představení Brownův výběr lokací v knize Andělé a Démoni, a to stručným představením jejich historického vývoje následovaným analýzou těchto lokací v kontextu příběhu, s podporou argumentů pro jejich význam v příběhu.

Abstract:

This thesis concerns itself with the use of architectural and cultural aspects in Dan Brown’s book Angels and Demons. Unlike most authors, Brown utilizes these aspects not as a complementary to the story, but builds the story around these aspects, carefully designing the story to fit in. The main goal of this thesis is therefore to introduce Brown’s selection of locations for Angels and Demons by briefly introducing their historical background followed by an analysis of the locations in the context of story, providing arguments as to their impact on the story.
