The life situation of adolescents

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá zkušenost adolescentů s terminálně nemocným rodičem ve zvládání očekávání kladenými jejich okolím. Cílem výzkumu je dosažení porozumění osobním zkušenostem respondentů v situaci terminálního onemocnění jejich rodiče. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny základní pojmy vztahující se k tomuto tématu. Jedná se o definici adolescence, terminálního onemocnění a konceptu sociálního fungování, v těchto kapitolách je dále rozvíjeno každé jednotlivé téma oblastmi k nim přidruženými. Výzkum je realizován v rámci kvalitativní strategie, konkrétně metodou interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy, technikami hloubkového rozhovoru s respondenty. Výsledkem výzkumu je zjištění, že adolescenti vnímají rozpor v očekávání okolí a naplňování tohoto očekávání jimi samotnými především v oblasti mikrosystému, tedy v interakcích s jejich vrstevníky a v oblasti mezosystému v interakcích se zdravotnickými pracovníky. Důležitou oblastí, která vyplynula z výzkumu, je také naplňování spirituálních potřeb, které se jeví jako základní při interakcích s okolím. Skrze naplňování spirituálních potřeb jsou adolescenti schopni přejímat nebo vytvářet styly chování, které jim pomáhají překonat krizové situace.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on experience of adolescents with terminally ill parent. The main focus is pointed to adolescent´s coping strategies used in dealing with expectations made by social environment of adolescent. The main goal of the thesis is to understand individual perspectives and experience of adolescent in the situation of terminal illness of his parent. Firstly the theoretical part of the thesis explains main terms connected with topic of the thesis. There are definitions of adolescence, terminal illness and concept of social functioning. These terms are also more defined through chapters closely connected with them. Second part of the thesis is focused on research itself. The research is made by qualitative strategy, more specifically by method of interpretative phenomenological analysis with a help of deep interviews with respondents. The outcome of research is that adolescents perceived conflicts in expectations of their social environment and their own achieving of these expectations. Furthermore the most conflicts appeared in their microsystem, precisely in interaction with peers. Moreover evident conflicts are also presented in mezzosystem, exclusively in interaction with medical staff. Other sphere, which came out as a result of this research, is spirituality. Particularly achieving needs connected with spirituality. The outcome is however fact, that this achieving is basis for interaction with social environment. In result adolescents are able to take over or create manners which help them to deal with crises due to achievement of spiritual needs.
