Changes of perception of the concept of home influenced by transnational migration

Abstract:

Tato teoretická přehledová studie si dává za úkol zpracování konceptu domova a jeho možných proměn vlivem současných strukturálních procesů a to především transnacionalismu. Samotný koncept domova nabývá v kontextu transnacionalismu nové významy a interpretace. Takto nastíněný předpoklad proměňujícího se pojetí domova je pak analyzován na třech úrovních. Makroperspektiva se zabývá strukturálními procesy a institucionálními podmínkami, jež transformují vnímání domova především díky rozpadu národních vazeb. Také politické podmínky jako hlavní příčina nucené migrace a ekonomické podmínky jako základní faktor migrace pracovní transformují tradiční koncept domova. Mikroperspektiva, zaměřená naopak na vztah k domovu z pohledu jedinců, ukazuje, že vlivem individualizace se proměňuje podoba blízkých vztahů, tudíž i sociální prostor domova. Navíc i životní cyklus jednotlivců doznává změny, které se skrze identitu přímo promítají do vnímání domova. Poslední část propojuje obě úrovně a soustředí se na popis oblasti, kde se obě perspektivy prolínají v interakcích a jednání jednotlivců a skupin. Domov je zde definován jako výsledek socializačních procesů, jejichž změny se promítají do identit jedinců, a tedy i jejich pojetí domova. Proměny vnímání domova vlivem transnacionální migrace jsou zaznamenány na všech analyzovaných úrovních a jsou tak příčinou i důsledkem strukturálních proměn zároveň.

Abstract:

This theoretical overview study deals with the task of processing the concept of home and its possible changes due to the current structural processes, especially transnationalism. The very concept of home in the context of transnationalism acquires new meanings and interpretations. This outlined assumption of continuously changing concept of home is analyzed at three levels. The macro-perspective level deals with the structural processes and institutional conditions that are transforming the perception of home mainly due to the disintegration of national bonds. It also deals with how political conditions as the main cause of forced migration and economic conditions as a basic factor in labour migration are transforming the traditional concept of home. On the contrary, micro-perspective focusing on home from the perspective of individuals shows that the influence of individualization is changing close relationships, thus social space of home. Moreover, the life cycle of individuals undergoes changes that are through identity directly reflected into their perception of home. The last section connects the two levels and focuses on the description of the area where the two perspectives overlap in the interactions and actions of individuals and groups. Home is in this part defined as the result of socialization processes. Changes of these processes are reflected in an individual's identity, and therefore in their concept of home. Changes in perception of home influenced by transnational migration are registered at all analyzed levels and are a cause and simultaneously a consequence of structural changes.
