An Outline of the Dramatization of Literaty Works Theory.

Anotace:

Disertační práce předkládá návrh teorie dramatizací literárních děl. I přesto, že dominantním zájmem textu je oblast teorie dramatizací, podstatná část úvodu je věnována historizaci celého problému. Vznik a rozšíření fenoménu dramatizací na konci devatenáctého století, ale především v průběhu století dvacátého, je podle autora práce zapříčiněn dvěma faktory, jež velmi úzce souvisí s pohyby v divadelním umění. Prvním z nich je posun dramatické struktury od tzv. objektivního dramatu směrem k subjektivizaci a epizaci, který měl za následek sblížení epiky s dramatem. Druhá příčina, která umožnila nárůst počtu dramatizovaných děl (textových i inscenačních), je spojena s emancipací divadelního umění, které se už nemuselo omezovat na pouhou ilustraci či interpretaci dramatu, ale pro své potřeby si začalo upravovat i texty jiných literárních druhů. Tyto dvě příčiny pak způsobily masivní rozšíření dramatizační praxe, jejíž význam se v československém kontextu projevil především ve třech obdobích a je spojen s meziválečnou avantgardou, ale také s působením studiových divadel 70. a 80. let a s českým polistopadovým divadlem. Fenomén dramatizací literárních děl je v práci sledován především na úrovni mezi-textových vztahů, ale také na úrovni vztahů uvnitř samotného textu. Od toho se také odvíjí centrální otázka celé práce, na niž se snaží odpovědět všechny kapitoly textu, a která by se dala formulovat následovně: Vede přesazení textu z jedné komunikační situace do druhé spolu s jeho formální, případně i tematickou transformací, ke změně komunikačního modelu v díle samotném? Jaká je to změna a co vlastně znamená? Text se soustředí především na popis a dílčí analýzu posunů dramatizací, které oproti originálu chtějí působit v nové komunikační situaci a oslovit odlišný okruh recipientů než text originálu, ale také na posuny přímo ve struktuře dramatizovaného textu či divadelní inscenace. Tomuto zkoumání je přizpůsobena také struktura práce. První kapitola se pokouší vymezit základní významy pojmu dramatizace, jimiž jsou dramatizace chápaná jako žánr, dílo, proces a postup, jejichž podrobnému popisu se věnují další oddíly textu. Žánru dramatizací je věnován prostor v oddíle nazvaném Dramatizace v síti žánrů, kde je dramatizace definována prostřednictvím dvou základních kritérií: dle vztahu k předloze a na základě své druhové charakteristiky. Další kapitola pak ukazuje, jak je žánr dramatizací vnitřně strukturován podle toho, jaký vztah k originálnímu textu dramatizovaná díla zaujímají. Dramatizace jsou zde pracovně rozděleny do dvou skupin na tzv. dramatizace-imitace, jejichž ambicí je především co nejpřesněji reprodukovat předlohu a na dramatizace-inovace, které původní literární dílo zásadně přehodnocují. Čtvrtá kapitola se pak věnuje přímo charakteristikám předloh, jež do značné míry determinují samotný proces dramatizování. Možnosti typologizace dramatizací jsou pak zkoumány v kapitole páté, kde je také představen víceúrovňový model, který by měl sloužit ke klasifikaci dramatizovaných děl. Jednotlivá dramatizovaná díla jsou v něm dělena podle tří os: strukturně-funkční, podle osy „věrnosti“ originálu a podle tzv. pragmatických podmínek – tedy kontextu, v němž se dramatizované dílo nachází. Šestá kapitola se věnuje systematizaci dramatizací prostřednictvím komunikačního modelu a zavádí rozdělení dramatizací na dva typy, podle toho, zda mají podobu textu (dramatizace textová), nebo zda jde o divadelní díla (dramatizace inscenační). tvím transformací významové struktury příběhu. Předposlední kapitola definuje několik základních dramatizačních principů či postupů, které se při dramatizování užívají. Závěrečný oddíl pak pojednává o dramatizacích v souvislosti s konceptem tzv. divadelní situace a popisuje, jakým způsobem se transformuje struktura předlohy do struktury, jejíž dominantou je divadelní situace. Práce Nástin teorie dramatizací literárních děl předkládá koncept dramatizací, který se v mnohém rozchází s některými dosavadními teoretickými návrhy v této oblasti. Na rozdíl od nich totiž předpokládá, že dramatizační praxe se neomezuje pouze na transformace epických a lyrických struktur, ale do skupiny dramatizací zařazuje také díla, která vznikla transformací původních dramat, jež obvykle stojí mimo oblast zájmu teorie dramatizací. Teorie dramatizací v tomto pojetí je tzv. teorií středního dosahu, která si neklade za cíl sumarizovat a zhodnotit všechny možné typy adaptací literárních děl, ale chce ukázat, jakými cestami se může dramatizační praxe vydat a také předložit několik teoretických nástrojů k jejich popisu.

Abstract:

The dissertation proposes a dramatization of literary works theory. Although it predominantly focuses on the area of the dramatization theory, a substantial part of the introduction deals with the history of the whole issue. The author identifies two factors closely connected to changes in the theatrical art that caused the formation and expansion of the dramatization phenomenon at the end of the 19th century and primarily, during the 20th century. The first is the shift of the dramatic structure from the “objective” drama towards its more subjective and epic forms that lead to a confluence of the epic and drama. The second cause that enabled an increase of the number of dramatized works (textual and staged) is related to an emancipation of the dramatic art that no longer needed to limit itself to merely illustrating or interpreting of drama, but began to adapt texts from other literary genres. These two causes lead to a massive expansion of a dramatizing practice, the importance of which found its primary expression in the Czechoslovak context in three periods, related to the inter-war avant-garde, activities of studio theatres in the 1970s and 1980s, and Czech theatre after 1989. The dissertation views the phenomenon of dramatization of literary works mainly on the level of inter-textual relations as well as the relations within the text as such. This leads to the central question, which the whole work attempts to answer in all its chapters and which could be phrased as follows: Does a transfer from one communicational situation into another, together with its formal and thematic transformation, lead to a shift in the communication model in the piece of work itself? What is this shift and what does it mean? The dissertation primarily focuses on descriptions and partial analyses of the shifts in dramatizations that, in contrast to the original work, aim at operating within a new communicational situation and addressing a different group of recipients than the original text, as well as shifts directly inside the structure of the dramatized text or theatrical performance. The structure of the dissertation has been adapted to this enquiry. The first chapter identifies basic meanings of the term dramatization, understanding it as a genre, piece of work, process, and method, which are described in detail in following chapters. The genre of dramatization is covered in the chapter Dramatization in the Network of Genres which defines dramatization according two basic criteria: its relation to the original and its generic characteristics. The next chapter shows how the genre of dramatization is internally structured according to the relation of the dramatized work to the original text. It provisionally divides dramatizations into two groups. They are: dramatizations-imitations that aim at the most accurate reproduction of the original, and dramatizations-innovations that fundamentally re-evaluate the original. The fourth chapter deals directly with the characteristics of originals, which to a large extent determine the dramatization process. The fifth chapter studies the possible typology of dramatizations. It presents a multi-layered model that should serve the classification of dramatized works. It divides the dramatized works according to three axes: a structural-functional one, a “truthfulness” to the original one, and the axis of pragmatic conditions – i.e. the context of the dramatized work. The sixth chapter deals with systematization of dramatizations via the communication model. It introduces a division of dramatizations into two types depending on whether they have a textual form (textual dramatizations) or they are theatrical plays (staged dramatizations). In the seventh chapter, the work shifts from the level of inter-textual relations to the intra-textual level and it characterizes the dramatization process via transformations of the semantic structure of a story. amatizing principles used in the process. The last chapter deals with dramatizations in relation to the concept of a theatrical situation. It describes the way of transforming the structure of the original into a structure where the theatrical situation is dominant. The work An Outline of the Dramatization of Literary Works Theory presents a concept of dramatizations which differs from the current theoretical concepts in this area in many aspects. Unlike them, it presumes that the dramatization practice does not limit itself to transforming epic and lyrical structures and it also includes works created as transformations of original dramas into the group of dramatizations, which often remain beyond the interest of theories of dramatization. The dramatization theory in its present concept is a mid-range theory, which does not aim to summarize and evaluate all possible types of adaptations of literary works, but it tries to show the paths that the dramatization practice can follow, and present several theoretical instruments for their description.
