Interpretation of the Ideas of St. Francis of Assisi in the Contemporary World

Abstract:

Svatý František z Assisi byl jednou z nejvýznamnějších postav středověkých dějin. Mezi nejdůležitější prvky jeho víry patřilo následování Krista v chudobě a láska k bližním. Přinesl nový pohled na vnímání přírody. Byl zakladatelem žebravého řádu františkánů. Práce se zabývá uplatněním myšlenek sv. Františka v současné době. Je analyzován přístup současné hlavy katolické církve k praktické aplikaci principu chudoby, pokory a k jeho ekologickým postojům. Cílem výzkumu je prokázat, jak papež František během svého úřadu uskutečňuje program, který si vytýčil přijetím papežského jména po světci z Assisi, tedy jak pokračuje v jeho smýšlení a tradici.

Abstract:

St Francis of Assisi was one of the leading figures of the medieval times. He dedicated his life to following Chris, living in destitution and promoting love of all beings. He was also a pioneer of a new view on, and understanding of, nature. St Francis is the founder of the Franciscan Order. This thesis focuses on the application of the ideas of St Francis in the contemporary world. It analyses the approach of the current head of the Catholic Church to the practical application of the principals of destitution and humility. It also focuses on the Pope's ecological viewpoints. The aim of this research is to demonstrate how Pope Francis continues in promoting of the traditional ideas of St Francis of Assisi in other words how the pope implements the programme he began by accepting his papal name after the saint.
